Luke Callaghan, RMT
I graduated with honours and as Valedictorian from a 2 year condensed Massage Therapy program at Everest College. I began my studies in Biomedical Science at uOttawa, after which I realized I wanted to focus on anatomy and working with people. That led me to the field of Massage Therapy. Every day I work with Massage Therapy my passion for it grows stronger, working with people and providing therapeutic treatment is incredibly fulfilling for me.
I have been educated to treat many conditions varying from TMJ conditions and tension headaches to the many types of overuse and chronic pain syndromes as well as athletic injuries. My favourite thing about this health care profession is how much time I get to spend with the client. Not only does this give me the time to work hands on to treat the clientís condition, but it also allows me to perform a full assessment, so my treatment is as effective as possible, and to teach them remedial exercises to facilitate my hands on work and to achieve even more effective and longer lasting results.
As part of my continuing education as an RMT I have taken a special Sports Massage Therapy Training Course. This course has given me even further qualifications to work with athletes varying from casual to professional athletes. Some specifics of my training include:
- Pre- and post- event Massage Treatment
- Athletic Taping
- Sports Massage in Body Building
- In-depth understanding of treatment of Athletic Injuries
- Myofascial Release Technique
My work experience includes working with athletes of the Ottawa Senators Development Camp and the Canadian National Gymnastics Team. I have also worked with clients at long term specialty care facilities as well as with amateur athletes and volunteering at events such as Relay for Life.
This variation of clientele has really driven home the point of how different every personís body is and that every client requires their own specialized treatment plan. The importance of being able to adjust pressure from superficial to deep tissue and change techniques for specific conditions is paramount. I want to work with the client to ensure my technique is working for them and that it is the most effective it can be.
I look forward to working with you and to helping improve your quality of life.
